Depression (Major Depressive Disorder) – is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Patients have the option of traditional psychopharmacologic medications to more of an interventional approach, such as TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and now Spravato (nasal esketamine).
Depression can be characterized by a persistent low mood accompanied by the inability to feel pleasure. In addition, a patient may experience difficulties with focus and concentration, low energy, crying episodes, difficulty getting up and getting started with the day, problems with sleep and appetite, and even suicidal ideation.
